Three commitments, in this order — the foundation everything on this site is built on.
First, do no harm to the world the work happens in. On a job site that means concrete things: measure twice so material is not wasted, recycle copper and cable offcuts instead of binning them, dispose of batteries and e-waste properly, and prefer energy-efficient choices where the specification allows. Care for the environment is not a slogan on this site; it is a habit I carry into every estimate and every installation.
People before paperwork. My years in humanitarian and development work — including MEAL with Save the Children International and CARE — taught me that behind every report and every project are people living through hard circumstances. That stays with me: treat every person on a site, in a classroom, and in a community with dignity, and judge work by whether it actually helps.
Build what lasts. Development is not a quick fix; it is the slow work of leaving something better than you found it — skills, systems, and infrastructure that keep serving people after you leave. That is why I study a trade properly instead of rushing to a title: real competence is itself a form of development.
If these commitments matter to you too — whether you work in the trades, in humanitarian or development work, or you simply care about doing things properly — I'd like to hear from you.
