Projects

Coursework only — not client work. Each project below is something I built or used in the program, documented as honestly as I can.

Optical Fiber End Connector

Terminating and testing an optical fiber end connector: stripping the cable without nicking the fiber, cleaving to a clean end-face, connectorizing, inspecting under magnification, and testing loss with a light source and power meter. The work is small, precise, and unforgiving — a dirty end-face or a bad cleave shows up immediately in the test result.

Full write-up to follow: what was terminated, what was tested, and what went wrong and was corrected.

Cabling Installation / Rough-In

Installation and rough-in coursework from the program: pathways and supports, boxes and brackets, pulling cable without exceeding bend radius or pull tension, and keeping communication cabling separated from power as the Code requires. Rough-in is the phase nobody photographs and everybody depends on — once the walls close, the work has to be right.

My actual kit

Tool Kit

Fluke 117 multimeter — True-RMS voltage, continuity, and resistance, the first instrument out of the bag for any diagnostic. Klein Journeyman hand tools — cutters, strippers, and drivers that fit the hand for termination work. CSA safety footwear — the unglamorous baseline for any site. Tools are listed here because they are the ones I actually reach for, not a catalogue wish-list.

Nothing on this page is a client project or a professional service. Coursework, documented as coursework.
